In brief

  • The 16 June 2026 interview described two programme centres: CIMH in Mannheim and OVID in Berlin. The official 2025 release confirms an exceptional pathway, not marketing authorization.
  • The public section mentions about 700 people expressing interest in Mannheim, not 700 admissions or a current verified clinical waiting list.
  • Jungaberle describes an arrangement with a private insurer for a decision within a week if coverage is granted; it does not promise approval, no copays or rapid access for every insured person.

ZI’s July 2025 release described an exceptional pathway to treat selected patients with treatment-resistant depression using psilocybin outside clinical trials. The June 2026 interview predates the first anniversary and describes capacity and coverage limits and about 700 expressions of interest; this review does not verify those people’s current status.

Exceptional access described at two centres

ZI’s 2025 release describes exceptional permission obtained through BfArM for selected treatment-resistant depression cases in Mannheim and Berlin, using PEX010 supplied by Filament Health. This is not marketing authorization. The BfArM entry inspected on 20 October lists psilocybin for treatment-resistant depression for 18 June 2026 to 17 June 2027; it does not establish current places, insurance or outcomes.

Clinical capacity and insurance coverage

In the public section, Mertens describes Mannheim preparing implementation and considering outpatient delivery, pending permission in her account. Inpatient care could fit ordinary coverage but required available beds. Jungaberle describes an OVID arrangement for an insurer decision within a week if granted, while day-clinic copays remain. These are June accounts, not a present guarantee of access, reimbursement or free care; the rest is paywalled and was not consulted.

What this means

The exceptional programme is not marketing authorization or proof of efficacy in treated patients. The interview illustrates how capacity and funding can affect access, without establishing which matters more or predicting other countries’ programmes. This review does not give an exhaustive list of EU-authorized psychiatric medicines. harm reduction and honest education remain the most vital tools for anyone navigating these therapies, whether through an official program or beyond one.
